Highway of Legends

No visit to Southeast Colorado is complete without touring the Scenic Highway of Legends.  We take the route from Trinidad around through Walsenburg to I-25 South back to Trinidad.    This loop around the Spanish Peaks takes you alongside the Purgatoire River to the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains driving through old mining towns and a few mountain resort communities along the way.  Stop in the mountain town of Cuchara for a burger at Dog Bar or some fish and chips at Cuchara Yacht Club then on to La Veta for dessert.  We’ve taken the Coronado Pass route from Cuchara to Aguilar twice and it was high altitude and awesome!
